We are interested in understanding the genetic and molecular processes that underlie the development of the Drosophila egg. The major axis of the egg and embryo are established during oogenesis through the interactions of the germline and the surrounding follicle cells. The Drosophila EGF receptor plays a major role in these cell cell interactions, and we have focused on understanding the activation of the receptor by a localized ligand, Gurken, as well as the developmental response of the follicle cells.
