Manav's latest paper was published in the August issue of Nature Medicine. In this study, Manav used an advanced in vivo imaging model to demonstrate that TGFb signal in bone metastasis intensifies dramatically after bone lesion, and that disruption of the TGFb, either directly by TGFb receptor kinase inhibitor or Smad inhibition, or indirectly by blocking bone destruction with bisphosphonates, can significantly reduce the development of bone metastasis. Such inhibition is sensitive to the timing of the treatment, as late treatment of established bone metastasis do not reduce tumor growth, even though TGFb pathway is still inhibited. Former lab manager Jun Yan, graduate student Xin Lu and former rotation students Shuwa Xu and Dorothy Lerit contributed to the study and are co-authors of the paper. Congratulations to Manav!
