The Confocal & Electron Microscopy Core Facility provides laser scanning confocal microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and sample preparation for scanning scanning electron microscopy to researchers in the Department of Molecular Biology. Our laboratory has 3 confocal microscopes , Zeiss LSM 510, PerkinElmer RS3 Spinning Disk and a Bio-Rad MRC 600. These services are available to other departments at the university, as well as public and private outside research institutions on an availability basis. The facility will train university faculty and research staff who require these microscopies as an everyday tool for their research. Training includes proper microscope or instrument use, imaging techniques, sample preparation, dye and reagent selection. Users are also instructed in the operation of the lab's microtomes, critical point dyer, vacuum evaporator, sputter coater as required. 3D image reconstruction software and other image analysis software are available
