
Andrew Maguire, Ph.D.
The GAVI Alliance
After earning his Ph.D. from Harvard University in 1966, Dr. Andrew
Maguire
served as an advisor on political and security affairs for the U.S. Department
of State and
as a member of the U.S. Delegation to the United Nations General Assembly.
He was
elected to three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives (D-NJ) where
he took
leadership roles in a variety of fields, including health and foreign
policy legislation. Dr.
Maguire completed a fellowship at the Kennedy School of Government at
Harvard and
served as Vice President of the World Resources Institute where he focused
on global
resource and environmental initiatives, and on strategies for sustainable
development. He
spent twelve years as President and CEO of EnterpriseWorks Worldwide,
a non-profit
organization working to combat poverty internationally through economic
development
programs.
Dr. Maguire currently serves as the Executive Director of The GAVI Fund’s
“Immunize Every Child” Campaign, whose goal is to ensure
that every child everywhere
is safely immunized against life-threatening diseases. In its first seven
years, GAVI
supported programs have reached 160 million children in the world’s
72 poorest
countries, saving an estimated 2.9 million lives. Dr. Maguire has served
as a board
member, consultant, and advisor to multiple foundations, corporations,
non-governmental
organizations, and public agencies, and has published widely on issues
of public policy.
